The changing world has impacted the domain of careers. The traditional career which is stable and linear has evolved into new flexible career models. However, long-term employment is still dominant and mobility has not increased significantly. The average job tenure in Belgium even increased from 11 years in 1992 to 11,3 years in 2017. Moreover, when people look back on their life, their career is the second biggest domain on which they report to have regret. This calls for a concept, named ‘career inaction’, which is the failure to act sufficiently over some period of time on a desire to make a change in one’s career. In this session we will explore this emerging concept together and discuss how we can turn the tide.
