A job consist of things that have the potential to energize us as well as place strain on our system. These things are often referred to as respectively the resources or demands of a job. Job demands and resources do not operate in a vacuum, they are embedded in a complex social reality. Individuals are embedded in higher order systems, such as teams, departments and organisations, each bringing their own unique emergent dynamics on how these demands and resources affect the motivation, performance and health of employees.
Furthermore, job demands and resources change over time, thus possessing a dynamic character. These dynamics are assumed to affect employees differentially through emergent characteristics. As a consequence, in this session we will explore the concepts of emergent characteristics of job demands and resources across both the temporal and structural landscape and discuss the potential effects on employees.
